About Kevin Murphy

From a young age, Umbrella Financial Services founder Kevin Murphy was inspired to achieve his highest ambitions. Born into humble beginnings, he was first in his family to graduate from college and went on to find success working for various corporate institutions including Broadcast.com, MCI Worldcom, Nortel Communications, Sprint and Voyager Expanded Learning, achieving various executive titles and mentoring hundreds of directors, managers and sales teams during his tenure.

His career took a turn when the company he was working for suddenly went bankrupt, leaving Murphy with the responsibility to share the news with his employees.

“No matter how much I excelled, at any time and for whatever reason, the leaders of these companies could just say it was all over and I would have no say– I was powerless,” he says.

Shortly thereafter, Murphy partnered with a friend to pursue a tax business– a departure from his previous marketing-focused career. Murphy’s background had laid the foundation for a new approach to recruiting for the financial services industry, pursuing candidates with an outgoing demeanor and outspoken personality that he was accustomed to working with. Quickly the duo found success and Murphy realized that he could combine this approach with his longtime passion for mentorship.

In 2010, Murphy launched Umbrella Financial Services in Arlington, Texas with the singular goal of providing a platform to motivated individuals who had a dream of living a better life with everything they need to start their own tax services company, packaging all the proven best practices, industry secrets and skills needed to be successful. He sought to challenge the shortcomings of starting a tax services business, such as high barriers to entry, excessive fees and poor customer care by providing a more accessible solution to motivated entrepreneurs.

Since then, Umbrella has launched three unique business models, mentoring more than 700 franchise owners nationwide under various family brands including Integrity Tax Returns, Experto Income Tax, Reliable Refund and Xpert Taxes which have been responsible for processing more than 500,000 individual tax returns.

Umbrella Financial Services is a member of the Better Business Bureau, an IRS Authorized E-file Provider, Licensed Continuing Education Provider (PAX2G), Member of CERCA (Council for Electronic Revenue Communication Advancement), Member of NATP (National Association of Tax Professionals), Member of National Society of Accountants and Member of National Society of Tax Professionals.

In 2018, Umbrella Financial Services expanded to offer financial wellness services to better serve its business owners and community and pursue its vision to make financial coaching information more accessible to all.

In 2020, Umbrella Financial Services expanded into Umbrella Capital Services.
